CP Rail Files Lawsuit Against Government

Sep 19, 2014

Canadian Pacific Railway is taking legal action against the Government of Canada over the Fair Rail for Grain Farmers Act.

Court documents show that CP Rail is alleging the government made four errors of law regarding changes to interswitching.

CP Rail claims those changes will cost the company $13 million per year and will make moving grain more difficult.

Ag Minister Gerry Ritz said that by extending the interswitching limit from 30 km to 160 km, they would be increasing competition.
