“Our farmers work so hard to care for their land, despite facing challenges that are outside their control,” said the Honourable Lawrence MacAulay, federal Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food. “With funding under the Sustainable Canadian Agricultural Partnership, the Marginal Lands Initiative will help farmers continue to grow and succeed sustainably for generations to come.”
“Our government continues to create the right conditions for Ontario’s farmers and our $51 billion agri-food sector to reach their full promise and potential,” said Rob Flack, Ontario Minister of Agriculture, Food and Agribusiness. “The Marginal Lands Initiative represents our latest commitment to supporting our farmers in maximizing the environmental health and long-term productivity of their farms, which will strengthen food supply chains and our agricultural competitiveness for generations to come.”
Conservation Ontario encourages farmers to take advantage of this program to improve their agricultural properties and contribute to a stronger, more sustainable food supply chain. Information and guidelines about the Marginal Lands Initiative are available on Conservation Ontario’s website.
The Sustainable CAP is a 5-year, $3.5-billion investment by federal, provincial, and territorial governments to strengthen competitiveness, innovation, and resiliency of Canada’s agriculture, agri‐food, and agri‐based products sector. This includes $1 billion in federal programs and activities and a $2.5-billion commitment that is cost-shared 60% federally and 40% provincially/territorially for programs that are designed and delivered by provinces and territories.
