CFFO Holds 2021 Annual Meeting, Board Elections

Mar 24, 2021
Provincial delegates of the Christian Farmers Federation of Ontario met via videoconference yesterday for CFFO’s annual business meeting.

Sitting president Ed Scharringa was acclaimed as CFFO’s president for another one-year term. Scharringa first joined the CFFO Board of Directors in 2009, serving in various roles before becoming president in 2020.

“It has been a privilege to serve CFFO as president this past year,” remarked Scharringa in his address to members. “One of the most remarkable things I saw this year was how much we strengthened rapport with government and other organizations. When times like these cause disruptions and difficulties, you need to collaborate, shed your differences and work together for the good of all. I am hopeful this spirit of cooperation will continue.”

Also acclaimed was Vice-President Frank Hoftyzer for a two-year term. Elections were held for three directors’ seats, which will be filled by returning directors John Bos and Bethanee Jensen, as well as newcomer Bonita Mercer.

Mercer owns and operates a cow/calf beef operation in Monetville in Northern Ontario. She is one of the founding members of the Northeastern Ontario District Christian Farmers Association board, established in 2015. She has also served on the Sudbury/West Nipissing Cattleman’s Association for several years.
