By Joe Sellers, Sherry Hoyer

As cold weather approaches, cattle producers start planning for winter and spring grazing, ration needs and heifer development in their beef cow herds. Iowa State University’s Joe Sellers has created a workshop to address these needs. It will be held Tuesday, Nov. 18, at the McNay Research Farm southwest of Chariton, running from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Sellers, who is a beef program specialist with ISU Extension and Outreach, said the Beef Cow Wintering Workshop will address a variety of timely issues.

“The workshop features beef cow ration planning, cost-effective heifer development, and tips and tools for grazing contracts,” Sellers said. “Attendees also will learn about managing stockpiled fescue and how to use the University of Nebraska’s cornstalk calculator.”

Workshop presenters are Sellers and ISU Extension and Outreach farm management program specialist Charles Brown.

The $15 per person registration fee is payable at the door and includes lunch at the farm from Cater 2U. No preregistration is necessary.
