Beck’s Broth, maker of nutritious and convenient instant drink mixes, is set to enhance its production capabilities and bring its products to a wider market. The Canadian company focuses on delivering delicious broth-based drinks that cater to consumers seeking healthy alternative options.
As a participant in the Grow Ontario Accelerator Hub Initiative (GOAH) through Bioenterprise Canada’s Food & Agri-Tech Engine, Beck’s Broth received mentoring and advisory services aimed at accelerating business growth, including recommendations for funding opportunities.
Through an access to capital initiative for accelerators, Beck’s Broth was qualified for a $50,000 flexible loan from the DELIA fund, powered by Engine member, Nventure. With the support of Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada, DELIA is an alternative lending solution designed specifically for women-owned, women-operated ventures, supporting innovative businesses with the capital needed to grow and scale their venture.
“We are absolutely over the moon! We could not be more excited about the growth potential that has just been seeded,” says Domenique Mastronardi, Chief Operating Officer at Beck’s Broth. “This funding allows us to invest in larger production runs so that we don’t keep selling out every month. It enables us to say ‘yes’ to more dream opportunities, like new retailers – we already secured a huge new listing coming in January 2025!”
With the new funding, Beck’s Broth plans to scale up production to meet increasing demand and explore growth opportunities. This expansion will allow the company to reach more consumers and solidify its position as a rising star in the agri-food sector.
“It has been a dream come true working with Bioenterprise Canada – we have clicked since day one, and it feels like they really have our backs,” adds Mastronardi. “The GOAH Initiative has been incredibly helpful in filling the gaps in our business. A good mentor and solid liaison in the industry are invaluable. We can’t wait to keep working with Bioenterprise – the people there are what truly make it for us.”
Nventure is proud to support companies like Beck’s Broth through its access to innovation capital initiative for accelerators launched this summer in collaboration with Bioenterprise Canada and two other leading national organizations. “Our Memorandum of Understanding with Bioenterprise ensures that innovative companies like Beck’s Broth can access funds quickly through a rapid pre-qualification process to help meet increased product demand and invest in growth opportunities,” says Wendy Curtis, CEO at Nventure. “Beck’s Broth is revolutionizing traditional bone broth with an incredibly exciting product lineup, making them a true rising star in the agri-food sector.”
Tailored, flexible financing to fuel growth is crucial for the Canadian agri-food sector, where the investment landscape can often be conservative and slow-moving. Women-owned agri-food ventures, in particular, face challenges in accessing the necessary capital to grow and innovate. By providing smart risk capital, DELIA helps bridge the gap between Canada’s world-class primary research and the commercialization of new products and technologies. Supporting women leaders from production to distribution, DELIA plays a vital role in fostering home-grown innovation that will shape the future of this critical sector.
By leveraging its network and expertise to unlock opportunities like this one, The Engine helps innovative agri-food businesses like Beck’s Broth to grow and thrive. With this significant boost, Beck’s Broth is poised to make a substantial impact on the Canadian food industry, offering more consumers access to its quality products.
