ASTA's field crop seed convention - A sunny shift to Orlando

The American Seed Trade Association (ASTA) is embarking on an exciting transformation with its Field Crop Seed Convention, previously known as the CSS (Corn, Sorghum, and Soybean) and Seed Expo.  

This annual gathering, which stands as the pinnacle of the North American seed industry, is changing both its location and its prospects. Set to occur in Orlando, Florida, from December 5 to 8, 2023, the convention promises new opportunities and experiences for all participants. 

Jennifer Crouse, the Senior Director of Meetings and Services at ASTA, explains the reasoning behind this shift. Extensive research conducted during the COVID-19 pandemic revealed a significant inclination among members to move the event from Chicago.  

After discussions with key stakeholders, top sponsors, and the exhibitor community, it became evident that Orlando was the preferred destination. A visit to Orlando's spacious and well-organized venue cemented the decision, enabling the consolidation of various conference components under one sunny roof, including exhibit tradeshows, large sessions, and private meetings. 

The revised program includes daily general sessions, with the first day featuring the eagerly anticipated Dan Basse Agricultural Economic Forecast. This presentation will be followed by a Majors Panel, where the four largest companies in the seed industry will provide immediate insights in response to Basse's market forecast. 

The subsequent conference days will continue with general sessions on climate-smart agricultural partnerships and the future of U.S. seed customers. Notably, the general session ballroom will house a Large Equipment Area, showcasing larger machines than ever before. 

Each day's general sessions conclude at 3 pm, offering attendees ample time to explore expo showcase events, which will spotlight the latest agricultural technology and production innovations. Additionally, attendees will have the opportunity to enjoy discounted theme park tickets and various networking events within Orlando. 

The conference will come to a close with a charity event dedicated to supporting Give Kids the World, an organization that assists terminally ill children through the Make-a-Wish Foundation.
