American Society of Farm Managers and Rural Appraisers’ Summer Education Week Returns to Des Moines, Iowa
Jam-packed with Education, Networking and Fun

Denver, CO, (AgPR) -- The American Society of Farm Managers and Rural Appraisers’ (ASFMRA - www.asfmra.org) Summer Education Week (SEW) will return to Des Moines this year. If you are unfamiliar with SEW, it is ASFMRA’s premier event aimed at providing education for licensure, accreditations and continuing education. This year’s event, July 13th through 17th will be loaded with education and networking opportunities for managers, appraisers, consultants and students.

For managers and consultants, ASFMRA will introduce Lease Negotiations on Monday and will add a session on Food Quality in the afternoon. On Tuesday, we will look at Water Issues, including water quality, water markets and subsurface drainage and pivot irrigation. On Wednesday, we will hear from Professor Roger McEowen, the Leonard Dolezal Professor in Agricultural Law at Iowa State University, who will discuss legal issues, including issues surrounding the Clean Water Act and the use of drones. His presentation on drones will examine privacy rights, FAA regulations and liability. We will end the day with a weather update from Josh Senechal, with Freese-Notis, followed by a marketing outlook and market forecast from ProFarmer’s Mike Walston and Brian Grete. Managers and agricultural consultants will have the opportunity to begin or continue their journey towards the Accredited Farm Manager (AFM) and Accredited Agricultural Consultant (AAC) designation with the ASFMRA Core Education Series: Ag Land Management (ALM) 1, 2 and 3.

For appraisers, ASFMRA will offer Basic Appraisal Principles (A101) and Basic Appraisal Procedures (A102) back-to-back.  If you need these courses to get started, or have trainees that need them, A101 will begin prior to the start of SEW on July 9th and A102 will begin on July 13th.  We will also offer Cost Approach for General Appraisers (A301) which will meet the 30 hours required by the Appraiser Qualifications Board for Qualifying Education for General Certified Appraisers. The course covers topics such as underlying Cost Approach definitions and concepts.

In addition to the core education, we will offer three new continuing education seminars for our seasoned appraisers – Key Elements of Grain Elevator Valuation, Introduction to Commercial Greenhouse Appraisals and Introduction to the Valuation of Permanent Plantings. You won’t want to miss these new seminars!

For students, SEW will provide the opportunity to participate in Career Day, which includes mock interviews, speed networking and a farm tour from the perspective of a farm manager and an appraiser.  Students will also have the opportunity to network with the ASFMRA Young Professionals Network (YPN). YPN promotes career development and personal success while transitioning to the next generation of leadership. YPN will also have a standalone forum on generational communications, sponsored by DuPont Pioneer.

SEW is an excellent gateway to the accreditation process. If you are interested in pursuing our highly sought after designations, this is THE place to start the AFM, ARA, RPRA and AAC designations. Those unfamiliar with the process are encouraged to contact ASFMRA’s Manager of Education Debe Alvarez at dalvarez@asfmra.org.

Throughout the week there will be many fun opportunities, including dinners sponsored by Monsanto, DuPont Pioneer and Syngenta, as well as an update from Stephen Frerichs with AgVantage, LLC, at the Monday lunch sponsored by Bayer CropScience!  Join us in downtown Des Moines and let ASFMRA make a difference – helping you to achieve and maintain accreditation, developing and keeping long lasting friendships and ensuring your continued success!
