Native Trees Planted Across Arkansas in 2025

The Arkansas Department of Agriculture wrapped up its fifth annual Free Tree Fridays campaign by distributing 15,400 native tree seedlings across the state.

The initiative took place over 35 events held each Friday from March 21 to April 25, drawing participation from 3,620 Arkansans who came together to celebrate Arbor Day and the value of trees in their communities.

Each event offered a selection of native Arkansas tree species, including cherrybark oak, eastern redbud, persimmon, red mulberry, river birch, and Shumard oak.

The campaign is designed to highlight the environmental and community benefits of trees while promoting proper planting practices and the use of native species.

“Free Tree Fridays is a way to celebrate Arbor Day by raising awareness about the benefits of trees and encouraging Arkansans to plant them in their communities,” said Kristine Kimbro, Urban and Community Forestry Coordinator.

“We’re proud that this event continues to grow each year, offering people across the state the opportunity to plant native trees that support cleaner air and water, provide shade and wildlife habitat, and enhance the beauty of our neighborhoods.”

Launched in 2021 through an idea by Grant County Ranger Troy Wood, the campaign has grown into a statewide tradition. It is funded by the USDA Forest Service Urban and Community Forestry Program in partnership with the Arkansas Department of Agriculture and supported by the Arkansas Urban Forestry Council.
