Another Couple of Weeks for Dry Bean Harvest Completion

The North American dry bean harvest is progressing well but still another couple of weeks away from completion, according to the latest update from The Andersons.

Yields remains good in the eastern production areas where rainfall was more plentiful, and poor in the western areas due to drought.

Ontario

Harvest resumed this week after the heavy rains from last week. Harvest progress is estimated to be around 75% complete and counting. Yield reports are suggesting average to above average yields. Conditions are improving for harvesting until Sunday. Both Sunday and Monday have high chances of rainfall. Temperatures are expected to be in the low 20s degrees C all week.

Michigan

The USDA rates the crop as 59% good to excellent as of Sunday, down 10 points from a week earlier. Harvest is estimated at 64% complete ahead of the 32% average. A bit slower harvest progress due to the rain from last week. Conditions this week are favourable for additional harvest until Sunday when there is an 80% chance of showers. Temperatures for the balance of the week are in the 70s degrees F. Next week will be in the high 60s F with dry to finish the harvest.

Manitoba

According to Manitoba Ag, the dry bean harvest is 82% complete this week compared to the 5-year average of 58%. Yields are reported in the 1,100 to 1,200 lbs/acre range with isolated 1,600lb yields in areas with a bit of moisture. Conditions for next week are expected to be good to finish the harvest, with temperatures in the 20s C and dry.

MinnDak

Harvest progress in North Dakota this week is estimated at 73%, ahead of 63% on average. In Minnesota harvest progress is 72% complete, near the average of 69%. The USDA has finished crop ratings for the season for both states. Conditions remain dry and warm for this time of year. Temperatures are in the high 70s F all week with only a slight chance of rain on Sunday. Local to our draw area, the beans are coming off dry and the yields remain poor.
