Feb 27, 2024

A farm near Alexandria has secured third place among dairy farms across Canada for having the best managed dairy herd.

Lochdale Holsteins, owned byDavid, Anne Marie & Andrew MacMillan, is third on Lactanet’s list of 25 farms. Lactanet is the Canadian Network for Dairy Excellence and is based in Guelph, Ontario and St-Anne-de-Bellevue, Québec.

Based on their Herd Performance Index (HPI), top dairy farms were recognized for outstanding herd scores, and who in turn elevate the standards of excellence within the Canadian dairy industry. From milk value to udder health, the HPI is a revolutionary metric that takes into account a multitude of factors that reflect herd performance.

Lochdale Holsteins’ HPI in 2023 was 969. Lochdale has 78 cows and a pipeline milking system. The second-highest HPI for 2023 was 976 for a farm in Nova Scotia. A farm in Québec had the highest HPI of 2023 at 988.
