Alberta barley and wheat farmers gather for regional meetings

Oct 29, 2024

Alberta Grains, which represents 18,000 barley and wheat farmers, will be travelling the province to discuss research and advocacy efforts.

The regional meetings, scheduled across six regions from Oct. 28 to Nov. 15. give farmers a chance to speak to the organization’s strategic direction.

Alberta Grains Chair and Region Two Director Tara Sawyer said one of the pillars of the Alberta Grains strategic plan is to increase farmer engagement.

“At our regional meetings, farmers and industry will hear in a very transparent manner exactly how wheat and barley levies are being used and leveraged to benefit their operations,” she said.

Discussions are centered on regional challenges, policy resolutions and potential board elections. This year’s meetings will emphasize interactivity, encouraging attendees to contribute to policy creation.

In regions four, five and six, Alberta Grains will partner with Alberta Pulse Growers to offer sessions on water policy, agronomy and farm management, while regions one, two and three will feature presentations by internal experts.

“We are incredibly proud of the work we do to benefit farmers, and we’re eager to share that information with them,” Sawyer said. “Find out what we’re up to and tell us what they think.”

Meetings are free to attend, include a complimentary lunch, and each attendee will have the chance to win a $500 WestJet gift card.
