Ag sector calls on Ottawa to Keep Canadian Grain on Track

Aug 20, 2024

With the threat of a potential rail strike by CN and CPKC just days away, a reminder to let politicians know the potential impact this will have on the agriculture sector.

Farm groups across the prairies have a link on their websites allowing farmers to send a form letter out calling for the Federal Government to intervene and stop the rail strike and "Keep Canadian Grain on Track".

The Province of Alberta also calling on the federal government to take immediate action to avoid a strike noting work stoppages at the railways will have far-reaching impacts that will effectively shut down Canada's rail network and vital supply chains and drastically impact the Canadian economy.

Devin Dreeshen, Alberta's Minister of Transportation & Economic Corridors says the federal government has created a labor crisis in Canada, first with the British Columbia ports, then WestJet, now the railways.

He says it's one strike after another adding these continuous strikes are eroding Canada's reputation around the world as a reliable trading partner.

Overall, he says the federal government must fix the labor problems it has created .. a potential rail strike by CN and CPKC could happen as early as Thursday.
