2025 Harvest Wraps Up with Rapid Progress — But Dry Conditions Loom Over Winter

Alberta’s 2025 harvest is virtually complete, with farmers across the province finishing up one of the quickest harvests in recent years, according to the final crop report for 2025. Ninety-nine per cent of major crops have now been combined, putting this season well ahead of the five- and 10-year averages of 97 and 83 per cent, respectively.

Hot, dry weather through late summer and fall kept fields accessible and supported a smooth, accelerated harvest. While most major crops — including spring wheat, barley, oats, canola, and dry peas — are fully harvested, attention now shifts to soil moisture levels and fall-seeded crop establishment heading into winter.

Harvest Progress Ahead of Schedule
Regionally, harvest is effectively complete in the North West and Peace regions, while the South, Central, and North East sit at 99 per cent and are expected to finish within the week.

• Spring wheat and barley: 99–100% complete
• Dry peas: 100% complete provincewide
• Canola and oats: over 98% complete

This year’s warm and dry conditions allowed for one of the fastest harvest paces in the past decade. Compared to a 10-year average completion rate of 83.4 per cent by mid-October, this year’s 99.4 per cent marks a substantial improvement.
