USDA : Weekly Sales Export Report

This summary is based on reports from exporters for the period December 25-31, 2009.

Wheat:  Net sales of 93,400 metric tons--a marketing-year low--were down 75 percent from the previous week and 68 percent from the prior 4-week average.  Increases were reported for Yemen (50,000 MT, switched from unknown destinations), Nigeria (34,900 MT), Ecuador (23,600 MT), Israel (17,500 MT), and Mexico (8,100 MT).  Decreases were reported for unknown destinations (58,000 MT).  Exports of 244,200 MT were down 17 percent from the previous week and 23 percent from the prior 4-week average.  The primary destinations were Nigeria (102,100 MT), Taiwan (44,000 MT), Algeria (24,700 MT), Ecuador (23,600 MT), and Japan (19,900 MT). 

Corn:  Net sales of 364,700 MT were down 53 percent from the previous week and 67 percent from the prior 4-week average.  Increases were reported for Mexico (165,600 MT), Cuba (125,000 MT), South Korea (40,800 MT), Japan (39,300 MT), Venezuela (34,500 MT, including 34,000 MT switched from unknown destinations), Canada (21,100 MT), and Ecuador (12,800 MT, switched from unknown destinations).  Decreases were reported for unknown destinations (95,700 MT) and Guatemala (14,200 MT). Exports of 798,100 MT were down 8 percent from the previous week, but up 16 percent from the prior 4-week average.  The primary destinations were Japan (298,100 MT), South Korea (170,400 MT), Mexico (131,600 MT), the Dominican Republic (68,900 MT), Venezuela (34,500 MT), and Taiwan (22,500 MT).

Barley: There were no sales reported during the week.  Exports of 2,400 MT were to Canada (2,300 MT) and Mexico (100 MT).

Sorghum:  Net sales of 42,900 MT resulted as increases for Japan (46,300 MT, including 34,400 MT switched from unknown destinations and decreases of 1,100 MT) and Mexico (31,100 MT), were partially offset by decreases for unknown destinations (34,400 MT).  Exports of 139,200 MT--a marketing-year high--were up noticeably from the previous week and the prior 4-week average.  The destinations were Japan (75,700 MT) and Mexico (63,400 MT).

Rice:  Net sales of 53,200 MT were down 48 percent from the previous week and 41 percent from the prior 4-week average.  Increases were reported for Japan (39,000 MT), Taiwan (6,000 MT), the Dominican Republic (3,500 MT), Israel (2,200 MT), and Honduras (1,600 MT).  Decreases were reported for Canada (1,200 MT), Haiti (800 MT), the United Kingdom (400 MT), and Jamaica (300 MT).  Exports of 89,600 MT were up 43 percent from the previous week and 33 percent from the prior 4-week average.  The primary destinations were Panama (23,600 MT), Mexico (18,900 MT), Japan (13,600 MT), Haiti (6,700 MT), and Honduras (6,200 MT).

Soybeans:  Net sales of 726,100 MT were down 8 percent from the previous week and 25 percent from the prior 4-week average.  The primary destinations were China (452,600 MT), Japan (96,200 MT, including 9,000 MT switched from unknown destinations), Indonesia (77,500 MT, including 65,000 MT switched from unknown destinations), Germany (75,900 MT, including 70,000 MT switched from unknown destinations), Thailand (67,000 MT, switched from unknown destinations), and Mexico (59,100 MT).  Decreases were reported for unknown destinations (102,000 MT), Egypt (28,100 MT), Cuba (22,600 MT), and Guatemala (8,000 MT).  Exports of 1,179,000 MT were down 14 percent from the previous week and 21 percent from the prior 4-week average.  The primary destinations were China (641,100 MT), Indonesia (91,500 MT), Germany (75,900 MT), Japan (75,800 MT), Thailand (68,200 MT), and Mexico (37,900 MT). 

Soybean Cake and Meal:  Net sales of 61,800 MT--a marketing-year low--were down 79 percent from the previous week and 74 percent from the prior 4-week average.  Increases were reported for Japan (24,800 MT, including 7,500 MT switched from unknown destinations), Poland (24,400 MT, including 24,000 MT switched from unknown destinations), Indonesia (11,400 MT), Australia (6,700 MT, including 5,000 MT switched from unknown destinations), the Dominican Republic (6,200 MT), and Vietnam (5,600 MT).  Decreases were reported for unknown destinations (38,800 MT).  Exports of 263,900 MT were down 6 percent from the previous week, but up 20 percent from the prior 4-week average.  The primary destinations were the Philippines (82,200 MT), Venezuela (27,000 MT), Australia (26,200 MT), Poland (24,400 MT), and Mexico (16,500 MT). 

Soybean Oil:  Net sales of 3,500 MT resulted as increases for India (29,700 MT, switched from unknown destinations), Nicaragua (1,600 MT), El Salvador (1,100 MT), and Canada (400 MT), were partially offset by decreases for unknown destinations (29,700 MT).  Exports of 9,600 MT were down 55 percent from the previous week and 72 percent from the prior 4-week average.  The primary destinations were to Cuba (7,600 MT), Mexico (1,500 MT), and Canada (400 MT). 

Cotton:  Net Upland sales of 197,000 running bales were down 44 percent from the previous week and 25 percent from the prior 4-week average.  Increases were reported for China (77,200 RB), Turkey (73,100 RB), South Korea (26,800 RB), Vietnam (4,300 RB, including 200 RB switched from unknown destinations), and Chile (3,200 RB switched from Bolivia).  Decreases were reported for Bolivia (3,200 RB).  Net sales of 3,700 RB for delivery in 2010/11 were for South Korea.  Exports of 100,200 RB were down 20 percent from the previous week and 12 percent from the prior 4-week average.   The primary destinations were Turkey (27,500 RB), China (12,000 RB), Mexico (10,900 RB), Taiwan (6,800 RB), Peru (5,800 RB), and Bangladesh (5,800 RB).  Net American Pima sales of 11,500 RB were down 54 percent from the previous week and 42 percent from the 4-week average.  Increases were primarily for China (5,900 RB) Pakistan (2,300 RB), unknown destinations (900 RB), Indonesia (800 RB), and South Korea (700 RB).  Net sales of 4,200 RB for delivery in 2010/11 were for China.  Exports of 35,400 RB were down 15 percent from the previous week, but up 4 percent from the prior 4-week average.  The primary destinations were China (23,300 RB), India (4,400 RB), Egypt (1,900 RB), and Pakistan (1,700 RB).

Hides and Skins: Net sales for the last week in the 2009 marketing year were 80,300 pieces, all whole cattle hides. The major buyers were China (49,900 pieces), South Korea (28,000 pieces), Mexico (3,400 pieces), and Italy (3,300 pieces).  Sales of 3,783,000 pieces, including 3,712,000 pieces of whole cattle hides, were outstanding on Dec. 31, 2009 and carried over to the 2010 marketing year.  Exports of hides and skins for Dec. 25-31 totaled 385,700 pieces, including whole cattle hides of 384,000 pieces. The primary destinations for whole cattle hides were China (202,400 pieces), South Korea (96,300 pieces), Taiwan (30,900 pieces), and Mexico (13,200 pieces).  Accumulated exports of hides and skins for 2009 were 27,031,600 pieces, up 4 percent from the prior year’s total of 26,014,400 pieces.

Net sales of wet blues for the last week in the 2009 marketing year totaled 70,500 hides. The primary buyers were China (57,800 unsplit), Italy (8,400 unsplit), South Korea (1,600 unsplit), and Hong Kong (1,600 unsplit).  A total of 504,600 hides were outstanding on Dec. 31, 2009 and carried over to the 2010 marketing year.  Exports of 71,300 hides were reported for Dec. 25-31, with the primary destinations of Italy (26,100 unsplit), China (23,900 unsplit and 1,800 grain splits), and Vietnam (6,400 unsplit).  Accumulated exports of wet blues totaled 5,899,100 hides, down 5 percent from the 6,222,200 hides exported during the 2008 marketing year.  Net sales reductions of splits for Dec 25-31 totaled 5,000 pounds and resulted as increases for Hong Kong (99,300 pounds) were more than offset by decreases for China (104,300 pounds).  Total sales of 3,926,300 pounds were outstanding on Dec. 31 and carried over to the 2010 marketing year.  No exports of splits were reported for Dec. 25-31.  Accumulated exports of splits for 2009 totaled 19,800,100 pounds, down 51 percent from the prior year’s total of 40,034,500 pounds.

Beef:  Net sales of 4,300 MT for the last week in the 2009 marketing year were primarily for Canada (2,100 MT), Mexico (1,100 MT), Japan (300 MT), and South Korea (200 MT). A total of 3,100 MT were outstanding on Dec. 31 and carried over to the 2010 marketing year.   Exports of 8,200 MT reported for Dec. 31, were mainly for Mexico (2,100 MT), South Korea (1,500 MT), Canada (1,300 MT), and Vietnam (900 MT).  Accumulated exports for 2009 of 480,800 MT were down 52 percent from the 506,900 MT exported during the previous year.
