Showcase in Guatemala links US exporters with Latin American buyers
The U.S. Meat Export Federation (USMEF) hosted its 13th Latin American Product Showcase on July 30–31 in Guatemala City, drawing more than 500 participants from 18 countries. The event featured 67 exhibitors representing over 80 USMEF member companies, offering a strong platform for U.S. red meat exporters to connect with prospective international buyers.
With support from USDA, the National Pork Board, the Beef Checkoff Program, the Nebraska Beef Council, and the Indiana Soy Alliance, the showcase has grown into a key event for both buyers and sellers. According to USMEF Chair Steve Hanson, the showcase demonstrates how U.S. red meat can meet diverse global demand, from premium cuts to items less consumed domestically.
Pork producer Kevin Rasmussen noted strong demand for pork loin in Central America, highlighting how customer preferences open new opportunities. Importers also praised the event. Colombian processor Juan Jose Trujillo attended to expand into pork and beef, while Alejandro Martinez of Inversiones Proteam said it was his fifth showcase and the most valuable yet.
Participants also joined retail tours across Guatemala City, observing how U.S. pork and beef are displayed in local markets. Nebraska cattle producer Mark Goes noted the strong demand for U.S. Choice and Prime beef in higher-end outlets, while pork cuts proved highly competitive in grocery chains.
