New policy targets sustainable practices
The Administration has introduced a comprehensive policy framework aimed at combating demand-driven illegal deforestation. This approach focuses on reducing the importation of deforestation-linked agricultural commodities and supporting global efforts to reverse deforestation by 2030.
The framework outlines six strategic elements, including prioritizing commodities tied to illegal deforestation, utilizing Earth-observation data, and collaborating with private sector investments in supply chain transparency.
By aligning these policies with the U.S. Lacey Act, the framework emphasizes targeting high-risk areas while minimizing unnecessary compliance burdens.
"Reducing illegal deforestation globally requires innovative approaches and collaboration across sectors," stated the Administration.
