A Saskatchewan agribusiness is selling one of its facilities to help improve another location.
Simpson Seeds posted a notice on its Twitter account on Oct. 11 announcing the sale of its Swift Current location and naming Monette Farms its new owner as of Nov. 1.
Multiple factors contributed to the sale, said Elyce Simpson Fraser, president and CEO of Simpson Seeds.
“We made the decision based on a lot of shifts that happened in 2020 and during the pandemic,” she told Farms.com. “We’ve had continued challenges with transportation and longer-term challenges with market access to places like India because of tariffs.”

Simpson Seeds will be using money from the sale to improve its Moose Jaw facility at 1170 North Service Road.
It’s unclear at this point what those changes could look like, Simpson Fraser said.
“We’re still in the development stage at this point but certainly once we have clearer plans we’ll be happy to share those with our growers and our customers,” she said.
Farmers who conducted business with Simpson Seeds at the Swift Current facility on South Railway Street West are encouraged to continue doing business at the Moose Jaw location.
The distance between the two locations is 174 km.
Simpson Seeds will be there for its farmers, Simpson Fraser said.
“We value the relationship we’ve built with growers in the Swift Current area,” she said. “We’re here to continue to buy products from growers around the province.”
