Mississippi to hold ag and forestry expo

The Mississippi Agriculture and Forestry Museum Foundation, along with Southern AgCredit will host the inaugural Mississippi Ag and Forestry Expo on Friday, June 12, 2015.

The Expo will run from 8am – 3pm at the Mississippi Agriculture and Forestry Museum.

The daylong event will feature seminars for landowners and producers including:

  • MS Medallion Program & Your Garden, by Dr. Gary Bachman
  • Poultry House Efficiencies and Economies of Sale by Dr. Morgan Farnell & Dr. Tom Tabler
  • Natural Resource and Conservation Land Management by Dr. Daryl Jones
  • Effective Wild Hog Control and Deer Management Nutrition by Dr. Bronson Strickland
  • Hardwood Timber Management for Recreation and Income by Dr. Andy Ezell
  • Farm Bill Program Overviews for Landowners by Sam Franklin

Throughout the day there will be a pop-up farmers market and farm safety demonstrations by the Mississippi Farm Bureau. Mississippi Ag will also be in attendance to perform live tractor demonstrations and showcase the newest in farm equipment.

An outdoor concert supporting the Ag Museum Foundation will also take place, beginning at 6pm.

As of 2014, Mississippi’s top five agricultural commodities were:

  1. Soybeans ($1.2 billion in production)
  2. Corn ($385 million in production)
  3. Cotton (More than $368 million in production)
  4. Rice ($184 million in production)
  5. Hay ($110 million in production)
