Agriculture and Agri-Food Minister Marie-Claude Bibeau appointed a third person to the Canadian Dairy Commission’s (CDC) board of directors.

Shikha Jain, CEO of Green Energy Trading Corporation, an organization supporting the dairy industry’s conversion of on-farm organic waste to renewable natural gas, will join the CDC as its commissioner for four years.

Her experience in the dairy sector includes seven years working at Dairy Farmers of Ontario in multiple roles.

This includes almost two years as the organization’s chief strategy and administrative officer, where she worked with the provincial government to establish new legislation (PAWS Act and Security from Trespass and Protecting Food Safety Act).

"There is no doubt that Shikha Jain's extensive experience in strategic planning and sustainability in the dairy industry will be assets for the Canadian Dairy Commission,” Bibeau said in a statement. “Her guidance will be valuable as the CDC is moving forward with the Government's agenda to advance innovation and GHG emissions reduction."

As a member of the board, Jain will work with stakeholders across the value chain and carry out priorities outlined in the CDC’s mandate letter.

The June 2022 letter directs the CDC to review its approach used on milk pricing decisions, administer the Dairy Direct Payment Program and work with federal departments to help Canada fulfill international trade obligations.

The CDC’s three-person board also includes CEO Benoit Basillais and Chairperson Jennifer Hayes.
