Manitoba government signs MOU with Vancouver Fraser Port Authority

The MOU will remain in effect for five years

Manitoba’s government and the Vancouver Fraser Port Authority have committed to working together to bring Manitoba goods to world markets.

On Oct. 27, the two parties signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to connect Manitoba businesses and goods to global customers through the port.

The Port of Vancouver is a major contributor to getting Manitoba’s products abroad, especially to the Indo-Pacific region.

In 2024, more than $4.5 billion worth of goods from Manitoba arrived in global markets through vessels at the port.

And in 2016, approximately $400 million in Manitoba agricultural products moved through the Port of Vancouver.

Strengthening the relationship between Manitoba and the Vancouver Fraser Port Authority positions both to serve Asia well as it increases its position in the world.

“By deepening our collaboration with the Manitoba government, we are helping deliver the products Manitobans make, mine, harvest and grow to global markets – particularly in Indo-Pacific markets, a region that will represent 50 percent of the world’s GDP by 2040,” Peter Xotta, president and CEO of the port authority, said in a statement.

The MOU will be in place for five years.
