Kyle Larkin appointed president and CEO of Canadian Meat Council

Larkin announced his departure from Grain Growers of Canada on Dec. 2

The Canadian Meat Council (CMC) has a new president and CEO.

On Dec. 9, the organization announced the appointment of Kyle Larkin to fill the position beginning Jan. 19, 2026.

“Kyle’s experience leading a national organization and securing meaningful policy results will be invaluable to CMC members,” Russ Mallard, chair of the CMC board of directors, said in a statement. “He brings the strategic understanding, relationship-building skills, and member-focused approach needed to position our industry for long-term success.”

Larkin’s experience leading national organizations includes recent history.

On Dec. 2, Larkin announced his departure from Grain Growers of Canada as its executive director, a title he held since July 2023.

His announcement indicated he’d still be around the ag industry.

He’s ready to support Canada’s meat industry, which supports almost 200,000 jobs and upwards of $10 billion of red meat exports.

“I look forward to working with the team in advocating on behalf of Canada's meat industry and delivering value to members,” Larkin said in a LinkedIn post. “It will be a pleasure to continue working in the agriculture and agri-food space in Ottawa.”

Canada’s meat industry is facing multiple challenges.

Labour issues, ASF, E.coli, regulatory barriers, and market access are listed on the CMC’s website as ongoing topics of importance.

The CMC is confident Larkin brings the tools and expertise to improve the overall sector.

“His substantial experience in navigating complex policy environments and advocating on behalf of members will guide CMC into a new chapter—one focused on impact, responsiveness, and delivering exceptional member value,” the organization said.
