July shows slight dip in US milk supply

USDA notes minor decrease in July milk production

Recently the USDA highlighted a slight downturn in the U.S. milk production, recording a marginal year-over-year decrease of 0.2 percent to 18.2 billion pounds.

This decline was observed even though there was an incremental rise in milk production per cow, which increased to 2,047 pounds. The total count of dairy cows saw a reduction, coming in at 8.88 million, which is 31,000 less than the previous year.

Revisions to June's milk production statistics also reflect a downward trend, with a 1.5 percent decrease compared to last year, culminating in 17.9 billion pounds.

The three-month period ending in June saw the dairy herd size reduce to 9.33 million from 9.41 million, with a slight dip in production per cow.

The U.S. milk production for July summed up to 18.9 billion pounds, indicating a 0.4 percent decline from the prior year. These statistics underline the subtle yet impactful shifts within the dairy industry, which are essential for stakeholders aiming to navigate the complexities of market demand and supply dynamics effectively.
