It's getting so close you can almost hear the rumble of motors.

The International Plowing Match & Rural Expo (IPM) is an annual five-day event celebrating agriculture and rural living—celebrating its 103rd year.

Held annually in a different locale in Ontario, the 2022 incarnation of the IMP is taking place in Kemptville (North Grenville) from September 20 to 24, 2022.

Like the name suggest, there will be plowing competitions, but there’s so much more, with a wide range of activities for people of all ages, dedicated to celebrating and educating about rural life and agriculture.

The event promises to maintain its tradition of near-constant live entertainment held in many Match venues. There will also be hundreds of vendors and exhibitors showcasing their wares of large and small equipment, lifestyle items and much more.

And like any good fair, don’t forget the food… so much food… we’re sure even Homer Simpson would be sated.

The International Plowing Match & Rural Expo, with over 80,000 visitors from across Canada, the US, and beyond, is the largest event of its kind in North America that you won’t be able to see and do everything in a single day.

Worried that you’ve “been there and done that”? Well, don’t. Because the IPM moves around the province annually, each local area tends to provide its own activities and entertainment. Besides… the tractor matches are always different.

The International Plowing Match is hosted by the Ontario Plowmen’s Association and a local-area committee.

For those rural areas wondering about the logistics of hosting a future IPM event, the economic impact, per tourism estimates, the event takes in about $25 million annually, and does not include the long-term benefits to the community.

And… profits generated from the IPM are donated to groups and organizations within the host community.

IPM has indicated that it is looking for volunteers to help with the upcoming Kemptville event. Visit the event website to learn how you can help: https://www.plowingmatch.org.
