Growers can choose between two organic options for 2018

By Farms.com

Horizon Seeds has been listening to its customers.

An important part of Horizon’s product line has always been customer choices. The company has developed and expanded those options by adding organic corn and soybeans to its product line for the 2018 growing season.

Horizon Seeds knows the seed that they are selling to the farmers are of the best quality because it produces and processes all the seed at its operation near Courtland, Ont. The ability to produce small lots of seed allows Horizon to fill the needs of specific growing environments, creating hybrids that have been bred for your farming conditions.

Included in the line-up of organic corn hybrids are HZ 2340, HZ 3720 and HZ 991.

The HZ 2340 is a 2,500-heat-unit silage-only hybrid. It’s a big plant that gets very tall and has nicely sized ears that are proportionate to the stock. It has good, early spring vigour and drought tolerance, and will be a good hybrid for the silage market.

Horizon is offering two hybrids in the 2900 heat unit range: HZ 3720, an organic grain corn with high yield potential, and HZ 991, a dual-purpose hybrid that has proven to be an excellent hybrid with top ratings for root strength and drought tolerance.

To round out Horizon Seeds organic offerings it also has two soybean varieties available. OAC Strive offers excellent early season vigour and emergence with top end yield and protein. OAC Kent has consistently good yields and quality, and is popular for export markets.

Horizon Seeds is a Canadian family owned and operated company that is very proud of what it has accomplished in the past 11 years. With the best genetics, the industry’s newest traits, superior seed quality and “here in Ontario” testing, crop success is sure to be on the Horizon.

Horizon Seeds will be at the Guelph Organic Conference to connect with producers and answer any questions you may have about its products. To find out more about Horizon Seeds visit www.horizonseeds.ca.
