Nova Scotia’s farmers and ag sector now know who will be representing their interests in the provincial legislature.

Premier Tim Houston tapped Greg Morrow, the MLA for Guysborough-Tracadie, to be the next minister of agriculture.

The riding includes 7,767 electors. Of that number, Morrow received 3,281 votes, or almost 64 per cent of the vote, Elections Nova Scotia reports.

Morrow and 18 other members of the Progressive Conservative party will make up Houston’s cabinet.

“This team will be focused on taking action on the things Nova Scotians have clearly told us are important to them,” Premier Houston said in an Aug. 31 statement. “I’m very proud of the talented, committed people we’ve selected, and I know they will work hard for Nova Scotians. We will find solutions that move us forward, together.”

Prior to entering provincial politics, Morrow worked as the radio news director at 101.5 The Hawk in Port Hawkesbury.

As the MLA for his riding, Morrow is committed to improving access to health care and helping rural economies thrive through infrastructure improvements, his party profile says.

The province’s agriculture industry is ready to work with the new government.

“We are looking forward to working with Premier Houston, and his team, to build a sustainable and successful future for our industry,” Tim Marsh, president of the Nova Scotia Federation of Agriculture, told Farms.com in an emailed statement.

Morrow is called at 59:42 of the video.
