Forever Cheese Inc. Recalls Product after Listeria Causes Illness

Forever Cheese Inc. has issued a product recall for their Ricotta Salata Frescolina brand, Forever Cheese lot # T9425 and/or production code 441202 - due to Listeria monocytogenes bacteria contamination. The contaminated cheese has been linked to 14 Listeria illnesses across 11 states. The cheese product in question was sold to distributors for retailers and restaurants in California, Colorado, Washington D.C, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Massachusetts, Maryland, Maine, Montana, New Jersey, New Mexico, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Virginia and Washington between June 20 2012 and August 9 2012.

All distributors and retailers of the cheese product are being contacted in order to fully recall all remaining product in the marketplace. Listeria can cause serious health problems, particularly in young children, pregnant women, the elderly and people with weakened immune systems. Some symptoms associated with Listeria infections include: high fever, severe headache, abdominal pain and diarrhea, stiffness and nausea. Listeria infections have also been known to cause miscarriages and still births among pregnant women.
