When people are inducted into any hall of fame, it’s a momentous occasion because it means the time and effort put in to achieve greatness is recognized by peers – some of whom may even be competitors.

Just as the Ontario Agricultural Hall of Fame inducted seven people during a ceremony on Sunday, June 14th, 2015, the Canadian Agricultural Hall of Fame will honour seven inductees at a celebration scheduled for Sunday, November, 22nd, 2015 in Regina, Saskatchewan at the Hotel Saskatchewan Radisson.

“Canadian agriculture is rooted in a rich history that set the foundation for the innovation that continues to drive our sector,” says President Herb McLane, Canadian Agricultural Hall of Fame Association. “The five inductees for 2015 represent the full spectrum of our industry. They reflect the vast geography of the country and the diverse disciplines that have collectively contributed to the past, present and future of Canadian agriculture.”

The inductees are:

Dr. Ron DePauw
Dr. DePauw spent 41 years with Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada as a researcher and breeder. Perhaps his most known contribution to agriculture is his development of AC Barrie, a wheat cultivar that continues to be the benchmark for wheat standards.

Hon. Grant Devine
Many may know Mr. Devine as the 11th Premier of Saskatchewan, but his journeys started as a farmer. As an economist, professor and politician he fought for Saskatchewan’s agricultural community and their importance to the economy of the province and the country.

E. Ward Jones
The late Jones spent his 48 year life making tremendous contributions to the agricultural industry. Most notably he developed 4-H (Head, Heart, Hands, Health) across Canada.

Anthony con Mandl
Described as a winemaking pioneer, Mr. Mandl has made it a passion of his to put British Columbia’s Okanagan Valley on the international wine map. His Mission Hill Family Estate Winery is a destination for wine-lovers as he raises awareness about BC’s agritourism.

Ovila Lebel
The late Mr. Lebel made announced his arrival in agriculture by founding Canada’s first provincial egg marketing board in Quebec. His continued efforts and desire to have a united voice for egg farmers eventually led to what’s known as Egg Farmers of Canada.

Congratulations to all the inductees.
