CFFO Talks Minimum Wage in Commentary

By Amanda Brodhagen, Farms.com

Ontario has put in motion discussions on whether or not to increase minimum wage in the province. One of the general farm groups, Christian Farmers Federation of Ontario (CFFO) is aiming to spur discussion on the issue as it pertains to agriculture.

The commentary highlights the tensions of increasing minimum wage, calling it a sensitive issue. While agriculture is exempt from minimum wage rules, the agriculture industry needs to be able to attract workers. In Ontario, the fruit and vegetable industries would hurt the most from increased labour costs, with employee compensation often accounting for more than half of growers’ costs.

CFFO asks all those concerned about the issue to speak up and provide feedback to the provincial government.
