Stakeholders invited to comment on outdated livestock dimension document
The American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers is asking stakeholders to provide feedback on a proposal to withdraw ASAE D321, a document known as Dimension of Livestock and Poultry.
The original standard was first published in 1985 and has received very few updates since its release. Because livestock sizes and production systems have changed over the years, the existing measurements are no longer considered suitable for current spatial requirements.
ASABE is inviting comments either in support of or in objection to the proposed withdrawal. Stakeholders can share their feedback by emailing the ASABE Standards Administrator, Jean Walsh, before January 20, 2026. This input will help determine whether the document should remain active or be removed from the standards library.
ASABE is recognized around the world as an organization that develops engineering standards for agricultural, food, and biological systems. More than 280 standards are currently published, covering a wide range of equipment and system requirements. These standards are voluntary unless required by state, provincial, or other government regulations. All documents are created through a consensus process that follows procedures approved by the American National Standards Institute.
