An Alberta ag organization dedicated to educating Albertans about the industry is holding a career day for young women next month.
Ag for Life will host its Feed Your Future event on Mar. 18 at The Village: Brentwood’s Lifestyle Centre in Calgary.
The free event is geared towards young women in grades nine to 12 who have an interest in agriculture and food production.
“This is a career event designed for networking and introducing young women to careers in agriculture,” Sarah Linde, program director for Ag for Life, told the Morinville News on Tuesday. “With a growing number of agriculture careers to choose from, we believe it is important to host Feed Your Future to increase learning and understanding about the variety of opportunities that are available.”
Attendees will have the opportunity to hear industry leaders discuss topics including physical and mental wellness, brand building, personal development and making connections for personal success.
The event will also help the young women understand that females contribute to the industry just as much as their male counterparts.
“Seeing as agriculture is a male-dominant industry, it is important that young women feel encouraged and empowered to consider careers in this growing industry,” Linde said. “Our hope is to bridge the existing gender gap in agriculture roles and inspire young women to explore all the diverse categories of agriculture jobs.”
Interested students must complete a registration form and teachers will select participants on a first come, first served basis.
