Gone Fishing? Don''t Mention These Animals

Gone Fishing? Don''t Mention These Animals

Mentioning some farm animals while on a boat is a bad idea according to some fishermen and women.

If you must mention pigs, say “curly tail.” If you’re talking about rabbits, say “bob tail.”

If you talk about rabbits directly, the devil will disguise himself as one, some people say.

In addition, having bananas on board while on a fishing trip is viewed as bad luck.

This superstition dates to the 1700s when many ships carrying bananas vanished at sea. It’s believed poisonous spiders lived amongst the bananas and sailors died from spider bites.
