Cows Are a Good Compass

In 2008, a group of scientists from Germany and the Czech Republic looked at satellite images of cows and determined the animals tend to face north when grazing, regardless of which continent they’re on.

The researchers say cows can sense the Earth’s magnetic poles, which are different from the geographic north and south poles.

 “(Cows) align their body axes in roughly a north-south direction…,” the study says.
