Some, but not all bugs are bad. Wireworm, cereal leaf beetle and beneficial insects.
Haley Catton shares her research into wireworm, cereal leaf beetle and beneficial insects in Alberta crop lands. Alberta has 3 native species of wireworm making a resurgence since the loss of Lindane as a control. Cereal leaf beetle arrived in Alberta in 2005. It struggles to survive in really dry years. Damage by this beetle shows up as striped as the beetle eats a line along the leaf. Alberta also has a native tiny wasp T. Julius that is a parasite of cereal leaf beetle larva. T. Julius is just one beneficial insect in Alberta fields and Haley talks about making sure you take care of them as they work for you and save you input money.
