A bale spike or spear is a tool used for handling round bales, which can either be attached to a three-point hitch or an attachment on a loader tractor. Prongs are inserted into the bale which allows it to be easily lifted. Once the bale reaches its destination it can be set down and the spear can then be taken out. In addition to bale spikes, there are also grapple forks which can also be used to lift and transport round bales. Round bales weigh a ton and require their own specialized moving equipment like bale spikes and grapple forks.
