The farmers have had the hammer down and U.S. corn planting is getting near the end.
As of Sunday, the USDA reports 85% of this year’s crop is planted, compared to 71% a year ago and the five year average of 75%. 56% of corn has emerged, compared to 40% on average.
45% of soybeans are planted, compared to 31% last year and 36% on average, while 13% has emerged, compared to 12% on average. 68% of the winter wheat crop has headed, compared to 56% on average, and 45% of the crop is rated good to excellent, up 1% on the week.
