USDA Crop Progress Report: Corn In Good Shape.

USDA reports the national corn condition rating declined slightly last week, but remains at much higher level than this time last year.

As of Sunday, 75% of U.S. corn is in good to excellent shape, down 1% on the week, but up 12% on the year. 92% of the crop has emerged, compared to 83% a year ago and the five year average of 90%.

For soybeans, 87% are planted, compared to 69% last year and 81% on average, with 71% emerged, compared to 46% a year ago and 62% on average. In the first rating of the season, 74% of soybeans are in good to excellent condition.

86% of winter wheat has headed, compared to 85% on average, while 9% is harvested, compared to 5% last year and 12% on average. All winter wheat condition categories held steady on the week at 30% good to excellent, 26% fair, and 44% poor to very poor.

95% of spring wheat is planted, compared to 93% on average, and 80% has emerged, compared to 82% on average. 71% of spring wheat is called good to excellent, compared to 62% a year ago.

51% of U.S. pastures and rangelands are in good to excellent condition, up 1% from last week.
