In 2023, the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) embarked on a mission to strengthen rural America, marked by a series of noteworthy projects and collaborations. President Biden's Investing in America agenda led to record investments in rural communities, resulting in several accomplishments. 

Supporting Farmers: USDA provided essential assistance to over 30,000 financially distressed farmers, ensuring their continued operations and simplifying loan application processes. 

Connecting Rural Communities: Through the Reconnect Program, USDA invested over $1.8 billion to bridge the digital gap in rural areas, benefiting farms, businesses, and educational institutions. 

Conservation and Clean Energy: USDA witnessed record enrollment in conservation programs, while investments in renewable energy systems lowered costs and promoted climate-resilient agriculture. 

Wildfire Protection and Tree Canopy: USDA's Forest Service addressed the wildfire crisis with treatments on millions of acres and urban tree planting, enhancing climate resilience. 

Supporting Small Businesses: USDA's commitment to small businesses was evident as procurement from these enterprises increased by 8%, fostering rural growth. 

Reducing Hunger and Promoting Health: USDA expanded access to school meals, streamlined SNAP online purchasing, and invested in school meal enhancements, benefiting millions of Americans. 

Leveling the Playing Field: USDA worked towards increased competition in agricultural markets, strengthening small and mid-sized farmers' standing. 

Record Farm Income: U.S. agricultural producers achieved record farm income and exports, diversifying export markets. 

USDA's initiatives in 2023 exemplify a dedication to building a more equitable, sustainable, and prosperous rural America, ultimately benefiting farmers, families, and communities nationwide.
