U.S. corn and soybean crop conditions improve.
Overall, both crops maintain progress above five-year averages, according to the USDA Crop Progress Report.
Progress of the nation's corn and soybean crops are ahead of the five year average this week, while cotton and grain sorghum crop development are lagging the five year average.
As of Sunday, the U.S. had 56% of its corn crop in the silk stage vs. 52% five-year average.
The USDA says that 8% of the U.S. corn crop is in the dough stage vs. 7% five-year average.
On Monday, the U.S. corn condition rating was marked at 65% good/excellent vs. 65% a week ago.
As of Sunday, the USDA rated the nation’s soybean crop as 63% blooming vs. a 57% five-year average.
The USDA noted that 23% of the soybeans are in the setting pods stage vs. a 21% five-year average.
For soybeans, 60% is rated good/excellent, above 59% a week ago.
The US Cotton Crop Condition has jumped again this week- now standing at 60% good to excellent, up from 56% a week ago.
Grain sorghum in the six major states that grow sorghum(Oklahoma, Kansas and Texas included) has seen a two point drop in the good to excellent ratings of 68%.
Winter wheat harvest in the southern plains is all by complete- Oklahoma has now reached 100% complete while Texas is 99% and Kansas is called 96% done.
Up north in the drought hit northern plains, USDA rated the U.S. winter spring wheat crop is rated as 11% good/excellent vs. a 16% five-year average.
Nationally- Pasture and Range conditions shows 33% of the nation is in good to excellent condition, down one point from last week and two pints under a year ago. Forty percent of the pasture and rangeland in the US is rated poor to very poor- up one point from a week ago.

According to the Oklahoma Crop Progress and Condition report, Canola harvested reached 95 percent. Rye harvested reached 95 percent. Oats harvested reached 70 percent, down 6 points from the previous year and down 15 points from normal.
Row Crops: Corn silk reached 47 percent, down 5 points from the previous year and down 10 points from normal.
Sorghum headed reached 18 percent, down 5 points from the previous year and down 9 points from normal. Sorghum coloring reached 2 percent, down 2 points from the previous year and down 4 points from normal.
Soybeans planted reached 95 percent. Soybeans emerged reached 85 percent, up 6 points from the previous year but unchanged from normal. Soybeans blooming reached 17 percent, down 16 points from the previous year and down 3 points from normal.
Peanuts pegging reached 41 percent, unchanged from the previous year but down 8 points from normal.
Cotton squaring reached 50 percent, up 3 points from the previous year but down 5 points from normal. Cotton setting bolls reached 10 percent, up 1 point from the previous year but down 4 points from normal.
Hay: The second cutting of alfalfa hay reached 91 percent, up 6 points from the previous year and up 3 points from normal. The third cutting of alfalfa hay reached 25 percent, down 12 points from the previous year and down 12 points from normal. The first cutting of other hay reached 95 percent, up 7 points from the previous year and up 2 points from normal. The second cutting of other hay reached 20 percent, down 3 points from the previous year and down 9 points from normal.
Pasture and Livestock: Pasture and range condition was rated at 68 percent good to excellent. Livestock condition was rated at 81 percent good to excellent.

According to the Kansas Crop Progress and Condition report- Field Crops Report:Winter wheat harvested was 96%, near 97% last year, and equal to the five-year average.
Corn condition rated 2% very poor, 5% poor, 19% fair, 62% good, and 12% excellent. Corn silking was 57%, behind 63% last year and 62% average. Dough was 13%, behind 23% last year, and near 14% average.
Soybean condition rated 3% very poor, 4% poor, 25% fair, 64% good, and 4% excellent. Soybeans blooming was 48%, behind 53% last year, but near 46% average. Setting pods was 14%, equal to last year, and near 11% average.
Sorghum condition rated 1% very poor, 3% poor, 25% fair, 65% good, and 6% excellent. Sorghum headed was 12%, near 14% last year and 11% average.
Cotton condition rated 0% very poor, 7% poor, 33% fair, 54% good, and 6% excellent. Cotton squaring was 79%, ahead of 74% last year, and well ahead of 56% average. Setting bolls was 9%, behind 16% last year, but near 7% average.

According to the Texas Crop Progress and Condition report:
Small Grains: Winter wheat harvested for grain reached 99 percent, down 1 point from the previous year but unchanged from normal. Winter wheat harvest in the Northern High Plains was nearing completion.
Row Crops: Corn silking reached 83 percent, down 5 points from the previous year but up 4 points from normal. Corn silage cutting in the Blacklands was nearing completion.
Cotton setting bolls reached 17 percent, down 3 points from the previous year and down 4 points from normal.
