Soybeans Expected To Exceed 2 Million Acres In Manitoba This Year: Stats Can Report

Soybeans in Manitoba are expected to reach a record high of 2.2 million acres this year.
 
That according to Statistics Canada's first seeding intentions report of the year.
 
Manitoba is expected to have the largest soybean increase of any province, up 34.6 % from last year. Nationally, farmers intend to plant a record 7 million acres of soybeans, up 27.2 % from 2016.
 
Canola is also expected to see record acres this year across Canada, up 9.9% to 22.4 million acres. However, Manitoba is expecting a slight decrease in canola, down 1.7 per cent to 3.1 million acres.
 
When it comes to wheat, farmers in this province intend to plant 2.7 million acres, down 9 % from last year. Acres across Canada are expected to remain relatively unchanged at 23.2 million acres.
 
Corn for grain is another one of those crops that's expected to see big jump in Manitoba, up almost 37.7 % to 475,000 acres. Nationally, the total is expected to rise to 3.8 million acres, up 12.8% from last year.
