Lans adopts smart TrapEye technology for advanced pest monitoring
Lans, a prominent tomato grower in the Netherlands, has embraced artificial intelligence to modernize pest management across its 88-hectare greenhouse operations. Supported by the Dutch cooperative Harvest House U.A., the company implemented Biobest’s Trap-Eye™ system to replace manual sticky trap monitoring.
This innovative, AI-driven solution captures images of sticky traps using solar-powered cameras installed throughout the greenhouse. These images are automatically analyzed to identify and count insects, providing growers with precise data through a cloud-based dashboard. This allows Lans to detect pest population trends early and act quickly to prevent outbreaks.
Vincent van der Lans, Director of Cultivation & Energy, highlighted the benefits of this innovation, saying that Trap-Eye™ provides reliable, fast insights into insect activity, helping the team make quicker and better decisions.
Lans faced growing challenges due to reduced access to crop protection products and fewer skilled workers available for manual scouting. By switching to Trap-Eye™, the company not only improved efficiency but also enhanced consistency and objectivity in pest tracking.
