Significant Rainfall Causes Crop Damage

Jul 15, 2016
A number of areas around the Province continue to deal with the impact of this week’s intense storm system that settled in over areas of Saskatchewan.

Estevan, Carrot River and Aborfield all declared a State of Emergency after heavy rain and strong winds causing some flash flooding leaving some community streets and rural roads under water.

Crop, hay and in some cases pasture land is also underwater , with water pooling in low lying areas in the field.

Bob Switzer farms at Aneroid and says with the heavy rain earlier this week they had water going over the roads, adding the creeks haven’t been this full since probably 1991 when they had the flood there.

"There is a lot of crop underwater in the low lying areas south of Hazenmore south of Aneroid where the flats are. The water is running through our hay land like a river."

He says not only are crops sitting in water many are knocked over and lodged which will make harvest a challenge.

Environment Canada's has released a list of some of the significant rainfall that they recorded during that 32-hour period.
