Saskatchewan Releases 2022 Clubroot Map

Jan 10, 2023

Incidences of clubroot continued to tick higher in Saskatchewan in 2022, although the increases were more modest than a year earlier.

Released Monday, the province’s 2022 clubroot distribution map shows visible clubroot symptoms in a total of 82 commercial canola fields, an increase of two fields from a year earlier. Meanwhile, the clubroot pathogen (but no visible symptoms) was found in 42 fields, an increase of four from 2021. In comparison, the 2021 clubroot map showed the number of fields with visible symptoms up five from 2020, while the number of fields with the clubroot pathogen increased by nine.

Over 500 fields were inspected in 2022 as part of the clubroot monitoring program, versus 750 the previous year.

"Clubroot can impact our producers, landowners and the province's strong canola market," Agriculture Minister David Marit said. "This map helps the ministry to track and manage clubroot while preventing it from reaching other fields."
