Resources for Flood Preparation, Recovery Available from ISU Extension and Outreach

Floods are a common and costly natural disaster. Iowa State University Extension and Outreach provides access to information and educational resources to help Iowans prepare for potential flooding and recover from the aftermath when flooding occurs.

Iowa Concern, 800-447-1985, is a confidential, free resource answered 24 hours a day, seven days per week. Iowa Concern provides access to stress counselors and an attorney for legal education, as well as information and referral services for a wide variety of topics. Language interpretation services are available. Or visit the website, https://www.extension.iastate.edu/iowaconcern/, to live chat with a stress counselor one-on-one in a secure environment. Iowans can also email an expert regarding legal, finance, stress, or crisis and disaster issues.

ISU Extension and Outreach’s Disaster and Crisis Recovery website, https://www.extension.iastate.edu/disasterrecovery/flooding, has information and resources to help you cope with the stress of flooding and make decisions for your home, family, community, business, or farm.

Finding Answers Now offers resources for the human side of disasters to help Iowans cope with concerns about healthy eating, relationships, mental health and wellbeing, personal finance, food safety, and nutrition and wellness.

AnswerLine, 800-262-3804, provides information and resources for Iowans with home and family questions. The toll-free hotline is available Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to noon and 1-4 p.m. Language interpretation is available. Dial 711 for TTY/TDD.
