Rouyn-Noranda, Quebec – Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada

The Quebec Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, André Lamontagne, announced that the Government of Canada and the Government of Quebec are each providing financial assistance, for a total of $30,791, to Les Jardins Tomates et Camomille, a farm business in Rouyn-Noranda.

Programme Territoires: Relève, entrepreneuriat et entreprises de petite taille

The company will receive $25,000 under the Quebec government’s Programme Territoires: Relève, entrepreneuriat et entreprises de petite taille [Territories program: Next generation, entrepreneurship and small-scale businesses]. The goal of this program is to ensure that rural areas remain attractive as places to live, work and invest in and to support a dynamic bio-food sector in all the regions of Quebec.

Prime-Vert program

A grant of $5,791 is being provided from component 1, agri-environmental interventions by farm businesses, of the Quebec Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (MAPAQ) Prime-Vert program, under the Canada-Quebec Canadian Agricultural Partnership agreement. The objective of the Prime-Vert program is to help farm businesses and other stakeholders in the bio-food industry to take environmental protection into consideration in their operations, which is one of the fundamental principles of sustainable development.

These investments attest to the government’s commitment to support the establishment of new farm businesses in the regions. The bio-food sector contributes to the development, growth and attractiveness of rural regions, in keeping with the 2018–2025 Bio-food Policy – Feeding Our World. The establishment of Jardins Tomates et Camomille in Abitibi-Témiscamingue thus contributes to the development and vitality of the region, in addition to supporting the regional economy and providing the public with access to healthy, locally grown food.
