Producers hoping for more heavy snow on Friday to replenish dry fields

Saskatchewan farmers are hoping for a nice dump of moisture in Friday’s snowstorm.

APAS President Todd Lewis, said the 30 or more centimeters of snow two weeks ago was a good start to replenish soil moisture but more is welcome.

“Absolutely right, certainly for a lot of the southern grain belt we’re going to need more, and of course any more snow-pack that contributes to runoff for our dugouts and surface water supply for ranchers and farmyards is going to be more than welcome,” he said.

Lewis said the snow may make road travel more difficult but any moisture is welcome after last years dry summer, fall, and this winter.

Farmers are hoping for good soil moisture for spring seeding.
