Potato Harvest Nearing Halfway Mark

According to this week's crop report, potato harvest is sitting at about 42 per cent complete in Manitoba.

Vikram Bisht is an Industry Development Specialist with Manitoba Agriculture.

"Conditions are good, the...temperature is very nice," said Bisht. "At the moment everything looks very nice, except the yields in some areas are lower but some growers are reporting better than last year production."

Bisht commented on the quality of this year's potato crop.

"So far, there is no issue with quality. The normal rot that we see...is much lower than normal. These are the potatoes in the irrigation wheel ruts, when you see them, they are basically gone. Overall quality is very good."

Bisht notes there were no cases of late blight this year.
