Plan to Attend Plot Tours for Small Grain Producers

Learn more about managing wheat, barley, rye, triticale, and oats at the Small grains plot tours. Participants will get to see up to 180 varieties in the field, take part in hands-on demonstrations and ask questions of UMN experts.

Bring field samples!

Participants are highly encouraged to bring questions and any field samples for diagnosis and/or conversation.  

With well adapted pests of corn and soybean, can small grains be a way to reduce risk on your farm? Are there advantages to planting winter cereals and sidestepping temperamental spring weather? In addition to these questions, variety selection and pest management will be discussed during each of the tours.

Dates and locations for Southern Minnesota Tour

• Wednesday, July 5, 2023 – Benson, 5:00 pm – 8:00 pm, dinner hot off the grill will be served after the plot tour at 7:00 pm.
  • Lee’s Seed Farm, 670 50th Ave NE, Benson
• Thursday, July 6, 2023 – Rochester, 12:00 pm – 3:00 pm, event will take place after the weed management program. Lunch will be served at 12:00 pm prior to the plot tour at 1:00 pm.
  • Lawler Farm, between 261 and 1301 70th Ave NE, Eyota
• Tuesday, July 11, 2023 – Le Center, 12:00 pm – 3:00 pm, lunch served at the farm shop at 12:00 pm prior to the plot tour next door at 1:00 pm.
  • Ruth Hoefs/Ron Pomije Farm - 20676 340th Street, Le Center
