The Oklahoma Cattlemen's Association (OCA)board of directors approved a set of priority policy issues that will drive the association's policy work in 2016 at their annual winter board meeting earlier this week in Oklahoma City.
According to OCA President Charlie Swanson "These priorities clarify the policy initiatives of OCA for 2016.”
The initiatives include:
- Protecting the tax policies important to cattle producers such as sales tax exemptions and ad valorem tax priorities
- Successful passage of State Question 777 - Oklahoma's Right to Farm
- Elevating cattle theft penalty legislation and investigating industry practices that would protect producers from cattle theft
- Successful passage of a Oklahoma beef checkoff
- Continued pressure to eliminate WOTUS and successful passage of TPP
"The 2016 legislative session, while overshadowed by a very large budget gap, will provide opportunities for work on several of these policy priorities. Additionally, Oklahoma's Right to Farm and a state beef checkoff will be substantial positive steps toward securing the future of beef production in Oklahoma," Swanson said.
The OCA board of directors also enthusiastically sanctioned the 2016-2020 OCA Strategic Plan which was presented by the Executive Committee.
