Fruit and vegetable growers can learn about the best seed for spring crops, equipment maintenance, and winter fruit crop activities during a Dec. 12 field day.

Experts from the Mississippi State University Extension Service and the MSU Mississippi Agricultural and Forestry Experiment Station will present several educational sessions at the Alliance for Sustainable Agricultural Production Demonstration Farm Field Day in Goodman.

David Nagel, a horticulture specialist with the MSU Extension Service, will help producers select the right seed for spring crops and the equipment best suited to their operations.

Eric Stafne, Extension fruit crops specialist and research professor with MAFES, will discuss pruning, pest control and soil fertility for fruit crops.

The alliance and its partners will discuss where to hold field days across the state next year to better support family farms. Those interested in hosting field days on their farms are encouraged to attend.

The field day is free and open to the public. The event begins at 10 a.m. and ends at 2:30 p.m. Advance registration is required. Lunch and materials will be provided.

The Alliance for Sustainable Agricultural Production is located between Goodman and Durant, one mile southwest of Highway 51 at 1184 Coleman Road.
