Management of Late-Season Soybean Pests

Pest control may not be a soybean grower’s primary concern once plants mature, but unchecked insect populations can still cause considerable damage and yield loss late in the season.

Providing information about late-season pest behavior is a new educational presentation from the Plant Management Network (PMN) entitled “Late(r) Season Insect Pests in Soybean,” now available as part of the Focus on Soybean resource for growers, crop consultants, and extension agents.

The webcast, developed by Kelley J. Tilmon, Associate Professor and Extension Field Crops Entomologist at The Ohio State University, discusses how stink bugs, bean leaf beetles and grasshoppers damage leaves, pods and seeds. The presentation also provides practical tips on:

• Effective field scouting methods and time-saving techniques
• Standard pest populations thresholds requiring intervention
• Considerations for selecting a late-season insecticide
